Homecare is, at its core, one person helping another live their life more fully. A caregiver helping a client get ready for their day. A client who can stay in the home they love. A family who can stress less, knowing their loved one is in good hands.
That’s why it might seem almost contradictory to see “homecare” and “artificial intelligence” in the same sentence. This industry is built on human presence, human judgment, and human connection. What does AI have to do with any of that?
Everything—if you build it the right way.
The Burden Homecare Workers Carry
Homecare workers spend a significant portion of their time completing tasks that are necessary but take them away from direct client work.
Coordinators search through availability lists trying to find the right caregiver for a client. Schedulers spend hours on the phone trying to fill open shifts. Caregivers who need to document visit notes reach for a notepad instead of spending that last five minutes with a client. Administrators wade through authorizations in order to put together care plans.
AI can take on this work so that there’s more time for what AI will never be able to do, like exercising the judgment of a skilled coordinator, building a trusting relationship between a caregiver and a client, or talking with a client’s family about their loved one’s care. AI clears the path so those things can happen.
AI as the Scaffolding, Not the Structure
AI should handle what’s tedious, time-consuming, and transactional so that people can handle what requires a personal touch.
Matching a client with the right caregiver means weighing availability, compatibility, geography, skill set, language, and a dozen other variables a coordinator has to hold in their head all at once. AI can surface the right options faster, and it can even confirm the shift—but it’s the coordinator who manages the relationship and steps in when it’s not a straightforward situation.
A visit note captures what happened in a home. AI can help generate a draft, or even listen and document hands-free, but the caregiver is still the one who was there, who noticed something was off, and who flagged a change in condition. The AI just removes the typing or writing so the caregiver can focus on the patient in front of them and accurately describe what they are seeing.
Administrative burdens like authorization management, scheduling optimization, and care plan maintenance slow agencies down and can burn good people out. AI can take them on—and agencies agree on where to start: According to our recent provider survey, 37.6% named caregiver scheduling and shift filling as the task they most want AI to handle.
Introducing CareMatch
Our latest embedded AI product, CareMatch, was built with this philosophy at its core.
CareMatch is HHAeXchange’s AI-powered shift booking agent, and it handles two things that once consumed a coordinator’s day: finding the right caregiver for an open shift and confirming them for that shift.
When a shift opens, CareMatch looks across your caregiver pool and scores each person based on their profile, availability, and location—matching not just to fill the shift, but to fit each client’s unique needs. It then contacts the best matches automatically—first through the app, then by text if they haven’t responded. If a caregiver still needs a nudge, a voice and SMS agent steps in to have that conversation. It can confirm interest, talk through the details, collect availability, and even suggest alternative shifts if the original one doesn’t work. Every response gets logged, and what the system learns about each caregiver over time gets used to make the next outreach a little more personal and effective.
And your team decides how much to automate. Coordinators can step in at any point, but the default is that the heavy lifting is already done.
The goal is to free coordinators from the repetitive back-and-forth so they can spend their time on building relationships, handling the tricky situations, and making the calls only someone who knows their people can make. At the same time clients get personalized care, and caregivers are set up to succeed.
CareMatch will be available to all agencies soon.

CareMatch is one piece of the AI-native platform we are creating. We’re actively developing other AI capabilities designed around the same principles as CareMatch: to reduce frustration, protect employee time, and make homecare operations work the way they should.
Homecare shouldn’t use AI to become something it isn’t. It should use AI to become more of what it already is—an industry where people can show up, do meaningful work, and be present when it matters most.
