2025 Homecare Insights: Caregiver Voices Survey

Now in its third year, the annual survey serves as an industry benchmark for understanding what motivates caregivers, what drives their success, and the challenges they face. This year, HHAeXchange surveyed more than 8,200 caregivers across its homecare agency clients.

In the midst of an ongoing caregiver crisis, it’s more critical than ever to support the individuals at the heart of homecare, just as they tirelessly support the clients they care for each day. The Homecare Insights Survey provides the industry with a clearer understanding of the workforce through timely insights on who caregivers are, what they value, and what they need to continue delivering exceptional care.

When asked how technology supports their work, caregivers said it helps most with managing shifts and schedules (49.3%), followed by communication with clients and care teams (31.5%).

This year, 69.9% of caregivers said they would spend an extra 3-5 minutes documenting client observations such as changes in diet, well-being, or environment if it could improve care, up from 57% in 2024.

When asked what tool or benefit would make their job easier, higher pay remained the top selection in 2025 (72.3%). However, this year’s results also highlight growing interest in additional training, rising from 14.5% to 21.7%, and flexible hours, up from 23.8% to 28.2%.

The number of caregivers who reported exposure to infectious diseases, such as COVID-19, as an extremely challenging aspect of their job has steadily decreased over the past three years, dropping from 18.0% in 2023 to 13.0% in 2024 and 11.4% in 2025.

I was inspired to become a caregiver because I truly enjoy helping others and making a difference in their daily lives.

Helping others, especially when they’re vulnerable or in pain, has always felt like a calling. That’s what led me to caregiving, and it’s what keeps me going.

Caregiving allows me to connect with people on a human level beyond words, beyond roles and that’s something I truly value.

When I was diagnosed with cancer last year, which I am cancer free now, I had a caregiver who was so helpful and made me see brighter days. I want to be the same way to bring brighter days to others.

I have always believed that everyone deserves compassion, dignity, and support—especially during times when they are most vulnerable. Caring for people gives me a sense of purpose, and I find it deeply rewarding to know that I can bring comfort, patience, and encouragement to someone who needs it.

Seeing how much comfort, dignity, and happiness a bit of kindness and patience can bring to someone really motivated me. I find it very rewarding to know that my support can improve someone’s quality of life.

I was inspired to pursue caregiving after witnessing my mother in this field and seeing how much she genuinely loved her work. Watching the impact she made on others showed me the value of compassionate care.

My inspiration came from caring for my own family members. The experience taught me patience, empathy, and the importance of giving people respect and love in their most difficult moments.

What inspired me to become a caregiver is my little brother. He has autism, and being closely involved in his care has taught me so much about patience, compassion, and understanding different needs. Watching him grow and learning how to support him through his daily routines made me realize how important it is to have people who truly care and want to make a difference in someone’s life. That experience made me want to help other families and individuals in similar situations to be that same kind of support that my brother needed and still needs.

quote

My inspiration to become a caregiver began when my mom became ill and I took on the responsibility of caring for her. During that time, I learned how powerful compassion, patience, and understanding can be in helping someone feel supported and valued. The experience touched me and showed me that caregiving is not just about providing physical assistance but it’s about offering comfort, and kindness. Since then, I’ve been passionate about extending that same care to others who need it.
